Department of Health Sciences and Technology: Leading Multidisciplinary Convergence Education
Modern medicine is rapidly expanding its scope into high-value industries by integrating clinical medicine with basic sciences such as biology, applied technology, engineering, and pharmacy, as well as new domains including social sciences, humanities, and data science.
Established in March 2011 concurrently with the opening of the Samsung Advanced Institute for Health Sciences & Technology (SAIHST), the Department of Health Sciences and Technology serves as a mecca for translational research through human-centered bio-convergence. We operate a core curriculum for creative convergence research, covering fields from personalized precision medicine and stem cell regenerative medicine to medical devices, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Our department is led by approximately 80 distinguished clinical faculty members from Samsung Medical Center and full-time faculty with top-tier capabilities in bio-research. Based on a comprehensive curriculum spanning basic medical science, bio-applications, and general Health Sciences and Technology, we provide students with new experiences and knowledge in translational clinical research. Through this, we cultivate outstanding convergence medical scientists required by the modern era.
We welcome future medical scientists who are eager to join our world-class faculty in challenging life science research to overcome intractable and incurable diseases.

Department Overview
Targeting undergraduate majors in medicine, biology, pharmacy, and health-related fields, the Department of Health Sciences and Technology cultivates talents who can contribute to establishing Korea as a leading medical nation. We provide multidisciplinary convergence education in key medical areas such as oncology, neurology, metabolic diseases, medical informatics, regenerative medicine (stem cell medicine), biological drug development, and clinical epidemiology.
Established in March 2011 with the opening of SAIHST, the department aims to normalize graduate education in Korea's clinical fields and propel the nation toward becoming a global medical leader. While Korea's medical sector has reached a world-class level in patient treatment, most of the knowledge, technology, and equipment used in healthcare are still imported from other advanced medical nations.
To become a truly advanced medical nation, graduate schools—the primary entities of research—must function effectively to research and develop new knowledge, technology, and equipment independently. As a full-time graduate school dedicated to education and research in clinical medicine, we are committed to the advancement and innovation of medical education.
