The degree is awarded upon passing the Final Defense. The Preliminary Defense (Preview) must be
passed one semester prior to the Final Defense (the entire process takes at least 2 semesters).
Candidates must satisfy the following six requirements to apply for the Final Defense:

➊ Completion of all required credits +
➋ Passing the Foreign Language Examination ➌ Passing the Major Examination +
➍ Passing the Preliminary Defense
➎ Fulfillment of journal publication, submission, or conference presentation requirements
➏ Completion of mandatory safety training (every semester)
